Gardner scores super goal

JAMAICAN Ricardo 'Bibi' Gardner scored a spectacular goal in Bolton Wanderers' 2-0 win over Barnsley in the British Nationwide Division One league yesterday.

Gardner scored his side's second goal in the 27th minute when he unleashed a stunning 30-yard shot which whistled over goalkeeper Kevin Miller who was off his line.

Bibi's teammate Michael Ricketts brought a frenetic opening period to life in the 14th minute when he struck with a low cross from six yards after a clever build-up from Gareth Farrelly.

Bolton dominated from the onset to the end to get their promotion firmly back on track.

Gardner, the 22-year-old leftback who represented Jamaica at the 1998 World Cup in France, has made steady progress from a serious knee injury which sidelined him for all of Jamaica's 2002 World Cup qualifying campaign to date.

He was among 20 players called by the local federation last week to attend a training camp ahead of Wednesday's Cup qualifier against hosts El Salvador.
