Letter of the Day - Nasty bus crews

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I HAVE seen male bus crew from the new transport system repeatedly using the entrance to Fay Simpson Preparatory School at 11 Hope Road, as a urinal. Lt. Commander John McFarlane and the Transport Authority should introduce a new component in the bus crew's much-touted training programme respect for people's property.

Persons attending this school find this habit, and the rank odour generated, obnoxious. Not to mention the owners of the school who live on the premises.

In fairness to female bus crew, they have not been seen offending in this way. It is a sad reflection on our male folk.

Many preparatory schools charge up to twice the fees of Fay Simpson's for comparable education. Well, this scenario might change, what with the school administration having to use a bottle of Jeyes disinfectant daily to counter the odour problem, and the school has to hire staff to undertake this job.

Minister Peter Phillips must say what has happened to the enforcement of his Anti-litter Act which makes such offences punishable.

Dr. Karl Blythe and his Environment Ministry should be ashamed of the negative environmental impact that this situation constitutes in this prime public area, literally in the doorway of his Ministry.

Senator Burchell Whiteman and his Education Ministry should be compassionately obliged to grant this school a special subvention to defray this inevitable expense.

Ironically the principal of the school, Mrs Fay Simpson received a National Honour from the government for outstanding services to education at Kings House a few weeks ago. Give her another award for; "Clean Environs.

I am, etc.,
