Time to invest in young Jamaicans

THE EDITOR, Madam:

MY BEAUTIFUL wife and I just completed a wonderful five-month stay at our condo at the Turtle Beach Towers in Ocho Rios.

During this period, I observed some events that were not so accommodative and others that were delightful and memorable. One of these delightful events was the celebration of National Heroes Day when Jamaicans were awarded for their contribution to our nation. On that day the Governor-General Sir Howard Cooke taught a lesson we should never forget.

That lesson is if you fall down you can get up again, even with a little help, and move on in pursuit of your objective. In his case it was handing out the awards. Chances are I will never be honoured with an award given by the Governor-General. However, I have been honoured by six kids I have selected from the Ocho Rios High School who needed help in performing good music. This will certainly enhance their opportunity to pursue successful careers in music.

My message to you is, if you return home to reside or come for a long stay or visit, please make some time and help your fellow Jamaicans to read or write, or with any other skill you may impart to them which will enhance their lives.

I am, etc.,

MICKEY O. BRYAN
