Galaxy still on top in A league

WESTERN BUREAU:

GALAXY FC maintained their slim lead in the Jamaica Football Federation's National A League after edging Violet Kickers 2-1 in their first round game at the new Clarendon Park yesterday.

Violet Kickers finished the game with nine players after Donovan Blake and substitute Kevin Campbell were both sent off in the second half.

Galaxy improved to 23 points with two rounds to go before the end of the first round, one point ahead of Village United who blasted Rockfort 6-0 at the Elleston Wakeland Centre.

Village's margin was the largest of the season so far and kept them in the hunt for a place in the end of season finals. Black Stars continued their steady upward climb and moved into third place after edging Duhaney Park 2-1 at Drax Hall.

Former national invitee Patrick Beech made his debut in the A League a good one as he slammed in a hat-trick for Rivoli against Brazil at Prison Oval. St. George's scored their second win of the season, turning back Central Link 2-0 at Lynch Park in Buff Bay while the bottom of the tables clash between Mile Gully and the Jamaica Defence Force ended goalless.
