THE EDITOR, Madam:
I AM writing this article on what I read in Gleaner Online for Sunday November 19, 'Police hound porn ring'. Now let me stress something here: I am not for, or was, or will ever be someone who cares for pornography but to see the police using their limited resources to vigorously investigate such a petty crime is ridiculous.
There is never a time that I read The Gleaner or The Star and I don't see where some innocent person has been killed. Now when I read that article I was not sure if I was to get upset or to roll over laughing. Just one line from the article read, "The penalty for breaking the law is $40 or three months in prison".
How can we justify the cost of investigating this infraction which incurs a $40 fine when we have the resources should be directed towards investigating much more serious crimes like murder, drug trafficking and fraud.
The priorities are not correct. Somehow I think that when criminals have killed just about every citizen in this country is the time when the police will really start doing something.
We must be looking like the laughing stock of the world. I wonder if the Special Investigative Branch will investigate my missing dog which cost more than $40. This is a true testament of the direction of the current leadership within the police force and national security.
Please, finding the criminals that are causing grief to the people of Jamaica should be looked into diligently.
