New album in February from Beres Hammond

Beres Hammond - FILE

JAMAICA'S OUTSTANDING balladeer Beres Ham-mond is putting the final touches to his next album, Music Is Life, to be released February 2001. The album will be the third recording for America-based reggae giants VP Records and is also to be released on Hammond's Harmony House label.

The album contains 16 tracks. The singer's manager, Mervis Walsh, told The Gleaner, he had difficulty putting the tunes together.

"I received 26 songs to choose from and it was not easy. When you have a pool of such good music you have to be diligent in making decisions, because all the songs which are left out could easily make it on to any album. I am just hoping that we made the right choices and that people will enjoy yet another good Beres Hammond record," she said.

Ms. Walsh also reported that the last album A Day In The Life had been successful.

"The company has been very pleased. The figures they give me are encouraging and they are anticipating even greater things from this upcoming effort," she said.

Collaborations

Most of the tracks were produced by Beres at his Selekshan Studio. However, he had collaboration from producer Phillip Burrell's Xterminator label and Fat Eyes label.

The Xterminator song is called Honey Wine And Love Songs and Fat Eyes contributes two songs I Love Jah featuring Flourgon and Dance Like Fire featuring hip-hop star Wyclef Jean. Pam Hall appears on a Harmony House-produced track, African People, which features guitarist Winston 'Bo Peep' Bowen.

Promotional tours are being planned for Europe, Canada, the Eastern Caribbean and United States, but no dates have yet been set.

Beres recently released a single, Ain't It Good To Know, which is attracting airplay.
