SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:
BY MIDJanuary work is expected to start at Redemption Ground in Spanish Town where a new arcade will be built in the old capital and also at La Carida in Hill Run where a cemetery is slated for construction.
According to the Mayor of Spanish Town, Owen Stephen-son, developers Consortium Construction Limited, a Florida based organisation, had already submitted the business plan for the cemetery which the Council has now approved.
Mayor Stephenson also disclosed that the project involves the development of the cemetery where two types of facilities, vaults and mausoleums are to be built. The development will take place in four phases each of which will last approximately five years.
1,000 shops
Meanwhile the arcade is expected to be built to accommodate over a 1,000 shops. It will also house a food court, restaurant and bar and green areas. The overall cost of the construction of the arcade will be in the region of some $120 million.
The development of both facilities is a joint venture between the St. Catherine Parish Council and Consortium Construction. They are expected to be run jointly by the Parish Council and the developers.
Meanwhile Mayor Stephen-son said that the Council is currently looking for lands to relocate vendors who are now using the Redemption Ground facility.
