A confidant and friend

THE EDITOR, Madam:

THE SHOCKING news that stunned a vast number of people in Jamaica and overseas, was the horrendous gun-slaying of Father Howard Rochester, beloved pastor, counsellor, confidant and friend.

My pastor was a good Shepherd who had a genuine love for the underprivileged in society, especially youths. He was considerate, compassionate and conscientious with the exceptional capability to evangelise even the inflexible; a very caring person and a Prophetic Persistent Voice for Justice, Peace and Love.

Father Rochester was a man of astounding dynamism, a courageous man who spoke the unvarnished truth. Consistent in his convictions, his "conscience rousing" homilies were very challenging inspiring and motivating the contrite, yet at times irking the obstinate.

Certainly, it is outrageous that this dedicated man of God is now listed among the fatalities that plague our lovely island home.

May God's mercy be upon my pastor's murderers; may they repent from their wickedness and seek God's pardon. Yes, they succeeded in terminating his physical being but failed totally to destroy his spirit divine.

Father Rochester accomplished his predestined task on earth in the limited time granted him. He won many souls for God's Kingdom and now he is 'safe and secure' enjoying the warm embrace of our mighty, merciful and loving Lord.

May perpetual light shine upon my pastor and may his soul rest in peace!

I am, etc.,

IRIS
