VETERAN Linton McKenzie gained sweet revenge over his Alcan teammate Kenrick Brown by winning the Holland Bamboo 10K road race in St. Elizabeth on Saturday.
McKenzie, 40, had to play second fiddle to the 31-year-old Brown in the Burger King/St. Jago and Hugo Chambers 10K races in the past two months.
But this time McKenzie relegated Brown to second place and re-established himself as one of Jamaica's best ever local middle distance runners.
The overall leader in the $200,000 Jamdammers Grand Prix road racing series, with two victories and two second-place finishes, McKenzie led home two other Alcan runners - Winston Taylor and Delroy Hayden.
Teenager Andrew Kidd from St. Jago High placed fifth, topping Omar Brooks who is still trying to regain his peak-form of last season, which saw him capturing the Holland Bamboo when it was staged as a 5K and winning the Jamdammers Grand Prix.
Making up the top eight was Alcan's Robert Watson and Conrad Bailey of Edwin Allen Comprehensive High.
Jill Vincent of Jamdammers, the defending champion of her club's Grand Prix racing series and who graciously gave back all her prize money won in the Series, captured the female category from the schoolgirls.
Making a sweep of the other top three places were Edwin Allen athletes: second-placed Nicola Maye, Lorraine McKenzie who won the 5K race last year and Sasha Kerr.
The surprise winner of the St. Jago race, Tamika Thomas of Tacius Golding, broke the Edwin Allen string by beating Beverly Morris into sixth place.
Meanwhile, Gregory McKenzie of Alcan captured the men's 5K title ahead of Shaun Smith of Christiana Comprehensive and Lerone Lawson of Holmwood Technical.
Jodi-Ann Richards of Edwin Allen took the female equivalent, beating Sabrina Young of St. Jago, Tracy-Ann Gayle of STETHS, Nicola Smith of Holmwood and Judith Thomas of Vere Technical in that order.
