SHAGGY, ONE of Jamaica's top-selling recording artistes at present, is scheduled to make an appearance in the island on Christmas Eve in an event titled, 'Red Stripe Hot Shots', at Cinema II, New Kingston.
The artiste's latest album, 'Hot Shots', for MCA Records has sold over one million copies and has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). And as of this week, the lead single from the album, It Wasn't Me, will be sitting in the top five position on the Billboard Top 100 Airplay Charts, while the album will dock at number 15 on the Top 200 albums chart. The single was also rated 'greatest gainer' of the Billboard charts in the latest edition.
Shaggy has not performed in Jamaica for some time now, his last appearance having been at Reggae Sumfest in 1998.
At the Cinema II shot he is expected to be supported by his long-time sidekick, Rayvon and a new addition to his touring aggregation Ric Rok, who appears on the single It Wasn't Me.
The deejay will share the stage with another platinum-selling artiste, Mystikal, whose latest album for Jive Records, Let's Get Ready, went over the top in October. Solomon Sharpe of Ras Promotions, presenters of the event, said they are impressed with the young rapper and were always trying to get him to come to Jamaica.
Also appearing on the show will be R&B singer Carl Thomas whose latest album 'Emotional' for Puff Daddy's Bad Boy Records has been doing well. The hard-core Jamaican segment of the show will comprise Mr. Lexx, Sean Paul, Delly and Christopher.
