Letter of the Day A record of exemplary service
Artnel Henry THE EDITOR, Madam: THE NATION owes a great debt of gratitude to Dr. Artnel Henry, the recently retired executive director of the Jamaica Bureau of Standards, after 27 years of outstanding service at the helm. It was pleasing to hear speaker after speaker with glowing tributes to Dr. Henry at a Bureau of Standards luncheon in his honour at the Hilton Kingston Hotel recently. Much applause followed as it was highlighted that through Dr. Henry's inspired leadership and administration, along with his team of scientists and dedicated staff, the Bureau, from small beginnings, had developed and expanded a set of standards and guidelines to protect the interests of our citizens in the areas of manufacturing, industry, construction, consumer products, trade, commerce, raw materials, health and other services. The growth, development, and general performance of the Bureau was described as "a first-world institution in a Third-World country", as to earn plaudits and high respect, locally, regionally, and internationally. Dr. Henry leaves behind an eminent institution of enviable repute and undoubted integrity, along with his record of selfless and exemplary services, which it will be difficult to surpass; and it is hoped that he will enjoy his well-deserved retirement. I am, etc., SAMUEL A. FITZ-HENLEY P.O. Box 799, Kingston 8
