NOW: Headley and Eunice Henlin celebrating 46 years of marriage. - Ian AllenHEADLEY and Eunice Henlin have lived a life- like dream.
In fact the couple from Oracabessa, St. Mary, who celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary last week, are so fond of their relationship, they would have no reservations about doing it again.
"Yes, I would willingly do it over again," Mr Henlin was quick to point out as he sat beside his wife at their home. "I've had no regrets and I would re-marry to the same person."
"An opportunity like that may not come again and I'm glad I took it at that time," Mr. Henlin added.
The two retired teachers met in Point Hill, St. Catherine in the early 50s while teaching at different schools in the community. They began a relationship and even though they were transferred to other schools in different areas, they kept in touch.
After a few years of a long distance relationship, they decided they were ready for the big step. They got married at the St. Andrew Parish Church on December 18, 1954.
The couple taught at their respective schools for a few months until Eunice moved to join her husband at the school he was teaching.
The Henlins have six children, three boys and three girls. The boys are all married.
The girls are all in Jamaica. The couple so far have seven grand children, six boys and a girl.
How has the couple managed to stay together for so long? "We're faithful to one another and we are Christians, so we live a Christian life," Mr. Henlin told THE WEEKEND STAR.
The couple are members of the Grace Baptist Church in the community since the late 1960s. Mr Henlin is a Deacon at the church while his wife is an organist and choir director. They are also Sunday School teachers.
The Henlins advice to couples; "They must know they have to be faithful, sometimes they marry because of the craving for money," Mrs. Henlin said. "You've got to think of your family, you've got to think of your children."
