Manchester amusement houses under scrutiny

MANDEVILLE, Manchester:

AMUSEMENT HOUSES and stage show venues are coming under scrutiny from the Manchester Fire Brigade.

Speaking at a recent meeting of the Manchester Parish Council, Deputy Superintendent Maxwell Hines, in charge of Mandeville Fire Brigade, said the majority of the shows staged in the parish has not been approved by the Council.

Given the magnitude of these shows, the danger to the public was increasing as show promoters and proprietors of amusement centres were not paying enough attention to safety procedures. He, therefore, suggested that the time had come for the various Parish Councils to begin cracking down on violators.

The Deputy Superintendent pointed out that the recently held 'Rebel Salute', at the Port Kaiser Sports Club, St. Elizabeth and the visiting circus, which is currently at the deCarteret College were not certified by the Fire Department.

In fact, Deputy Superinten-dent Hines reported that his department did not give any clearance to any show promoter to hold events in Manchester during last year.

He said it is essential that entrances and exits were clearly marked and remain unblocked and that routes for emergency transport planned in case of an emergency
