THE NATIONAL Democratic Movement has replaced its councillor/caretaker for Christiana, Manchester, following police reports that he is being sought for questioning about an attempt in December to export cocaine from Sangster International Airport, Montego Bay.
The Gleaner had reported in December that the police were seeking Owen Junor, NDM caretaker/councillor for Christiana, and his business partner, Jasette Watson, for questioning about an aborted attempt to export 89 bottles of cocaine among a shipment of soft drinks, bammies and spring water to Florida.
Mr. Junor and his partner are still being sought by the police.
Wayne Chen, NDM caretaker for Manchester North-east, says Mr. Junor has not been seen since the incident and, in the circumstances, the party could not hold itself to the standard of waiting until he is proven guilty or not.
In a release yesterday, the NDM said that at a divisional conference and workers' meeting at the Christiana Compre-hensive School over the week-end, former council-lor/caretaker Michael Green was elected to re-assume the post he had given up early last year because of personal commitments.
"It is not for us to judge Mr. Junor, but when the work of the NDM is affected, when his duty to represent the people is not being discharged efficiently, we can only thank him for the good work that he has already done and find someone else to take up the mantle," Mr. Chen was quoted as saying in the release.
