BASSETERRE, CANA:
THE Leeward Islands, aided by 90 minutes of rain delays, held on for a draw against Jamaica on the final day of their third round Busta Cup cricket match at the Edgar Gilbert Sports Complex yesterday.
Set 261 for victory in a minimum of 65 overs after Jamaica declared at 257 for seven in their second innings before lunch, the Leewards were struggling on 106 for eight when played was called off.
The Leewards batsmen had approached the target with almost reckless abandon and at tea they were tottering on 95 for seven with Omari Banks and Kerry Jeremy yet to score.
The Jamaicans pressured the defensive batsmen with several close to the wicket fielders with the spinners Ryan Cunningham and Nehemiah Perry in operation.
Two stoppages after tea left the Leewards with 18 overs to bat as the the final mandatory 15 overs were readjusted to start 5:00 p.m. (local time).
