McGregor, Yeshemabeth to perform with Joe, Kelly Price

Freddie McGregor

Internationally acclaimed Freddie McGregor is busy rehearsing and making plans with his daughter Yeshemabeth for their performance at the Valentine's Day show scheduled for February 11, at the Immaculate Conception High School in Kingston. The show is expected to be headlined by American R&B stars Joe and Kelly Price.

McGregor told Showbiz that he has been anxious about the performance as it will be the first of its kind for him in Jamaica in four years.

"It has been a while and I really need to please those fans who have been without a major Freddie McGregor performance for so long. I performed at East Fest in St. Thomas on December 30, but that was a select audience. I love the kind of setting this show will take place in and I am just eager to get out there," he said.

McGregor said he had been away from the Jamaican stage for such a long time because he was taking time out to ensure that his marketing and promotion concepts in the United States were working well and he had to pay a lot of close personal attention to them.

"During that time I toured North America extensively and throughout Europe. I ensured that all my products were well placed and everything went well. I am back in Jamaica now and I am ready to satisfy my people," he told Showbiz.

During his travels across Europe last year, Freddie appeared along with John Holt as special guest with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, in three sold-out performances under the patronage of the Prince of Wales.

"That was something really special and it spoke to the power that good reggae music has out in the wider world," he said.

Freddie McGregor said he would be asking Judy Mowatt, the mother of his daughter, to join them on stage on February 11 in singing In Me In You.

"That song was written by 'Shema' and we believe it will be fitting for her mother to be there with us when we sing it. We performed it at a similar concert before and it was well received.

"I expect a great atmosphere. I really like working along with the foreign artistes and these two, Joe and Kelly Price are really talented," Freddie said.

He also disclosed plans to return to London this year to do the show for the Prince. In fact, he said more dates have been added with Paris and Spain being on the roster.
