Black Americans and travel

THE EDITOR, Madam:

Upon reading the article "Black American tourists", by Denise Clarke and Garwin Davis, I found it most interesting. As an Afro-American I have been travelling to Jamaica since the late 1970s and I usually travel to Jamaica several times a year.

Black Americans for the most part are not serious international travellers. Most of Black America prefers to travel domestically. On many occasions I have brought my brothers and sisters to Jamaica and they loved it. Black Americans, however, are not a curious lot and only recently have Black Americans started international travel.

Jamaica is a distant land to them preferring to travel to the Bahamas or Cancun. I'm always spreading the word about how wonderful Jamaica is.

I am etc,
