UWI centre named after late Custos

Lalor

THE UNIVERSITY of the West Indies Distance Education Centre (UWIDEC) in Ocho Rios, St. Ann was recently named in honour of the late Dr. Osmond Toml-inson, former Custos of the parish.

The naming was done at the request of the Silver Jubilee Fund, an education trust fund set up in 1994 in celebration of Dr. Tomlinson's 25th year as Custos of St. Ann.

Speaking at the naming ceremony last Thursday, Director General of the International Centre of Environmental and Nuclear Sciences (ICENS), Professor Gerald Lalor, said with the advances in technology and rapid global changes, it was possible that distance education, with its valuable characteristics, be intertwined with all aspects of the learning process.

Custos of St. Ann, R.O. Walters, commended the late Dr. Tomlinson, for having served as Custos for 30 years. The centre, officially opened in 1999, has an enrolment of 70 students.
