H. View lift Bell KO title

Hue

By Ainsley Walters, Staff Reporter

PREMIER LEAGUE kingpins Harbour View outclassed Constant Spring 3-1 at the National Stadium Saturday night, snatching the Jackie Bell knockout title from the defending champions.

Shawn Henry (25th), Ali Rose (72nd) and second-half substitute Jermaine Hue (penalty in time added on) gave the league champions their second victory against Constant Spring in three days following a 2-1 Federation Cup win last Wednesday.

Lincoln Taffe's 80th-minute glancing header was merely consolation for Constant Spring, who were losing their third straight game against Harbour View.

Danny Lyn's men fell to the oldest trick in Harbour View's book after 25 minutes when overlapping left-back Robert Scarlett was sent clear down the flank with a give-and-go. The speedy player cut inside the area and fired a torrid left-footed shot which was turned into goal by Henry.

Norton Carnegie should have levelled the score three minutes later but instead attempted an elaborate curve with only Harbour View 'keeper Leroy Gray to beat.

Midway the second-half, the lights at the southern end of the stadium went out, forcing referee Peter Prendergast to call a halt. After a lengthy deliberation, almost 20 minutes, the teams decided to continue with Harbour View's end of the field dimly-lit.

Though Williams had the benefit of the two functioning light towers behind him, the Constant Spring goalie erred with a misdirected spot kick shortly after the 'light break'. An alert Harbour View attacker intercepted his intended pass and laid off to Rose, who booted into an empty goal.

Taffe pulled one back for Constant Spring when he sneaked behind Harbour View's defence 10 minutes from time but his effort was undone by Hue with the closing whistle a minute away.

The former Harbour View captain started a mazy dribble midway Constant Spring's half and was brought down inside the area after leaving three opponents in his wake. Referee Prendergast ruled penalty and Hue turned out Constant Spring's lights with an easy conversion.
