Lawyer named Commercial Court Judge

ATTORNEY ANDREW Rattray of the Kingston law firm Rattray, Patterson, Rattray, has been appointed Judge of the Commercial Court.

Yesterday afternoon Governor-General Sir Howard Cooke swore him in at a ceremony at Kings House.

Justice Algernon Smith was sworn in to act as a Judge of the Court of Appeal in place of Justice Paul Harrison, who is on vacation leave.

Mr. Lennox Campbell, Senior Assistant attorney-general, Mrs. Carol Beswick, Master in Chambers at the Supreme Court, Mr. Glen Brown, Senior Resident Magistrate, and Miss Christene McDonald, Regis-trar of the Supreme Court, were also sworn in to act as Puisne Judges.

Senior Resident Magistrate, Marjorie Cole-Smith, was sworn in to act as Master in Chambers.

Mr. Justice Maurice Reckord and Miss Justice Kay Beckford are on vacation leave while Mr. Justice Neville Theobalds has retired.

The Commercial Court is expected to start sitting next week as a division of the Supreme Court, King Street, downtown Kingston. As the name implies, it has been set up to deal with the speedy resolution of business matters.

Mr. Rattray is the son of the Hon. R. Carl Rattray, Q.C., former President of the Court of Appeal, and his wife, Audrey.
