Boyd THE MANAGEMENT of Arnett Gardens, the last local club which national forward Walter Boyd represented in Jamaica, refused to confirm yesterday the player was on his way back but did say his return would be welcome.
On Wednesday it emerged the skillful forward, who is completing his second of a two-year loan deal with Welsh team Swansea City, would not renew his contract with the club or sign a new contract with a club in Britain.
"I have not spoken to him lately but I have heard the rumour," said the president of the Arnett Gardens Football Club, Patrick Roberts. "If that is indeed the situation we would welcome him because he would give us an extra boost," he said.
Roberts also said his club tried to get the services of Boyd last month for the CONCACAF Giants Cup since he was not being used by Swansea.
"We had e-mailed Swansea with a number of requests, one of which was the club granting us permission to have his services for the Giants Cup competition, but based upon the time factor it did not work out," Roberts said.
"I doubt though that he would be involved in any negotiation with another Jamaican club and not Arnett Gardens," he said.
"The last time he came to Jamaica was for (Steve) 'Shorty' Malcolm's funeral in early February and we sat down and spoke. Then he showed interest.
"Because of the new management structure of the club he was very impressed with what was happening and expressed an interest in coming back to play and that was the last discussion I had with him. He told me he wanted to come back and play, even if he played just a few games before the season is over."
Asked about the possibility of the 29-year-old representing the club at all this season, Roberts said it would be possible.
"I think what he needs is just a clearance as he was registered before going to Swansea this season. He was registered with Arnett Gardens and he is a national player so it should not be a problem," he said.
