Careful thought and salaries

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I HAVE noticed the many organisations requesting improved salaries from the government including the Jamaica Teachers Association. It would be true to state that there is need for improvement in the wages offered to government workers. But how can an organisation be requesting a 50 per cent increase in salaries when there are so many groups in the government sector in need of pieces of the same pie?

Allow me to suggest to the JTA to reconsider its submissions and give some more thoughts to the wider needs of the society. True, our teachers should receive better pay, but what about the others in the government sector?

Sir, for the country to move forward, it is my belief that as workers in this society, it is time we begin to give careful thought of our neighbour and be willing to participate in the principle of sharing our goods and services.

I am etc.,
