Vibesing up

BEFORE starting some persons smoke a spliff others read a chapter from Psalms while there are those that drink water.

Entertainers have different methods of preparing to go on stage. That final hour or minutes before facing the huge crowds - what do they do in order to stay focus or get the right 'vibes'?

"Elephant Man drink spring water before he goes on stage. He doesn't take any form of alcohol," said his manager Q45.

Coco Tea, on the other hand, admits that he smokes a spliff - if it is available. The singer who said a spliff is not for the sole purpose of enhancing his performance, also says sometimes he drinks spring water or roots drinks. "I don't drink no form of liquor to boost my performance but if a spliff is available I bun it," he said.

There are fans of Bob Marley who also say his secret to a great performance was a spliff.

There are current cases of rastafarian entertainers who usually 'smoke weed' before hitting the stage. Others take a shot of a white rum, a cup of tea or chew a bubblegum.

It is said that Baby Cham reads a passage from Psalms.

"Baby Cham don't take any form of ganja or shot (white rum) or anything to go on stage. When he is leaving the hotel he reads a psalms," said Brenda Hamilton, his manager.

George Nooks, the man who recorded the current hit, God Is Standing By, also turns to the Bible.

"I usually just ask God for guidance and to ensure that I do well. I have been doing this for years," he told THE STAR.

The singer said however that in years gone by

there were times that he did use a spliff. "That was a very long time ago. But I don't think if you smoke spliff and get high this will particularly make your performance be great."

Power Man also says a prayer while JC Lodge and Pinchers say all an artiste needs to do before going on the stage is concentrate.

"I concentrate and then performing a keep studying the behaviour of the crowd because this will help me to work towards winning them," Pinchers said in summing up what really ensures a good performance.
