THE Santa Cruz Infirmary which houses St. Elizabeth's indigent is getting assistance from a local corporate to upgrade the publicly run institution.
Rapid Sheffield Santa Cruz Branch has pledged materials for the development and fencing of the property, in continuation of work begun Labour Day.
Up to the end of May, the company had spent $100,000 on the property, according to branch manager Sharon Chintai. She said Rapid Sheffield decided to assist following a plea from the infirmary for help.
"Some of the things we are doing include fencing of the general compound, repairing of some sections of the building which housed the inmates and new doors," the manager said.
A grateful Matron of the infirmary, Paloris Kenlock, said the help came at a time when the building was in a state of disrepair and badly needed to be worked on.
"We have received paints, nails, wire and the work was organised by warders from the infirmary and staff members of Rapid Sheffield. One of the objectives is better security for the inmate," the Matron said.
