Theatre - Oh Romeo

These children are all attentive as they try to imitate a move being demonstrated by Posy Miller. - Junior Dowie

MOST JAMAICANS have heard about William Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet, but how many people really understand the story behind this classical piece of work?

Romeo and Juliet is currently being performed by the In Cahoots Theatre Company, out of London, who are here for a short stint doing workshops in schools.

The play is one of the ultimate love stories, telling the story of two young people who are passionate about each other but fate keeps them apart.

Juliet (played by Posy Miller) the daughter of a great Lord meets and falls in love with Romeo (played by Richard Sutton) a sprightly lad of humble beginnings. All would have been well if her father Lord Capulet ( played by Jonothan Clarkson) did not have other plans for his daughter which did not include Romeo. Instead he wants her to marry Paris, who is of noble birth.

The rest is well known.

Although the Shakespeare jargon in this play will leave you feeling dizzy and confused at times, you will not miss the plot.

You should enjoy every moment of the convincing love scenes when Romeo prepares to go into exile. Juliet dressed only in lace is quite a sight for Romeo.

The play is directed by Sarah Deny-Jones, set costume design by Diane Tye, fight master Philip D'Orleans and produced by Posy Miller, Jim Malcolm, Misha Herwin, Robert Reid, Nicola Johnson and Rowena Conner.
