People get what they deserve

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM a firm believer that people get what they deserve.

The Government and the utilities believe that they are dealing with a bunch of stupid people and so they are.

The Jamaica Public Service Co. published in The Gleaner of March 26 2001 that residential customers will see an average increase of 9.8 per cent in their bills. and so they will on the overall amount - for the month of March but look a little closer: 1st 100 kwh increased from $2.803 to $3.572 increase =27.43 per cent; next kwh's from $3.433 to $5.047 increase = 47.01 per cent; customer charge from $7.80 to $50.00 increase = 541.02 per cent.

Where they have fooled you for the moment is in the f/e adjustment from 30.457 per cent to 3.00 per cent. because they changed their base rate from $35.00 to $44.00.

But if you the public don't mind, why should I?

I am etc.,
