Shame and disappointment

THE EDITOR, Sir:

A FEW years ago when Jamaica's national football team qualified for the World Cup the Prime Minister declared a national holiday in celebration. As a country we were all elated and honoured at the positive impact that this achievement brought to our country and the tributes we received from the world at large.

The Opposition then berated the Prime Minister for "shutting down the country" and for causing millions of dollars to be lost through production hours.

So what happened to production last week? And for what? To have the eyes of the world on Jamaica again, but this time not for something positive. How many more millions of dollars were lost during the two days the Opposition supporters "locked down the country"; and how many more billions of dollars will be lost from tourism revenues?

Instead of joy and elation as before, there is now shame and disappointment.

I leave you to figure it out.

I am, etc.

SENATOR ALOUN NDOMBET-ASSAMBA, JP
