Higher pay and more stress

THE EDITOR, SIR:

I AM keeping abreast of the exodus of Jamaican teachers coming here to the United States to work.

It's clear that we have some of the best trained teachers. Why would Britain, Canada, and the US hire us? I am a Jamaican teacher trained in the field of Special Education. I have worked in the North Carolina School System and had to leave after five years because of the indiscipline and the lack of support from the administrators. It's not a bed of rose to work in the schools of the United States.

However, our teachers will gain the experience of working here and may learn to appreciate what they have left back home. I say good luck to all the teachers who have left!

The pay is better here but it comes with a lot of stress.

I am etc.,
