Focus on national issues
THE EDITOR, Sir: The peace talks between the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition on Thursday, August 16, left many of us with a ray of hope.

For a better Jamaica
THE EDITOR, Sir: I am writing with much concern about Jamaica. From as far as I can remember, Jamaica has had its many trials and share of problems but as time goes by, it has become worse.

No to decriminalisation of ganja
THE EDITOR, Sir: Allowing this dangerous drug, ganja, to be planted, picked and consumed like a backyard mango tree will definitely make this country escalate in violence and retardation.

Dangerous ideas, Ms Ritch
THE EDITOR, Sir: I read Dawn Ritch's column (Gleaner, Aug. 23/01) "British colonialism unjustly blamed" with incredulity and dismay.

Sovereignty and marijuana
THE EDITOR, Sir: Your paper has published several articles on the issue of Jamaica decriminalising marijuana for personal use.

Why a State of Emergency has not been declared?
THE EDITOR, Sir: I am amazed that our security forces cannot prevent the continuing high level of crime in the western end of Kingston.
