No to decriminalisation of ganja

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ALLOWING this dangerous drug, ganja, to be planted, picked and consumed like a backyard mango tree will definitely make this country escalate in violence and retardation. Those who commit murder and other crimes can always plead insanity.

Imagine a court house where the judge asks a defendant, "Why did you commit the crime?" Defendant replies, "The weed sah! Me did a smoke some herb, and me just feel different. Me neva know wey me did a do sah!".

Who must be hanged will be considered insane!

However, my personal belief is that the drug must be regulated and prescribed by a doctor for medicinal purposes, but not to be generally legalised or decriminalised for all these fake-rastas and foreigners to use as some leisure or pleasure drug. Where there are drugs, there is crime of all magnitude. The most serious is robbing the young minds of intelligence and sanity. We cannot allow that to happen! NO! NO! NO!

I am, etc.,
