KINGSTON COLLEGE and St. George's College relished the muddy conditions at the Cloverly Park field to retain the Pancho Rankine and Roper Cup titles respectively in the 37th renewal of the competition yesterday.
Goals from Richie Murray and Frank Marshall in the over-35 game gave Kingston College a 2-1 victory over their North Street rivals while St. George's rebounded to take the Roper Cup 2-1 on aggregate, winning the Under-35 match 1-0 and drawing 1-1 in the Manning Cup feature.
If yesterday's game is anything to go by, the Manning Cup season, which gets underway early next month, promises much excitement.
St. George's looked the fitter of the two teams but KC was first off the mark when Ricardo Craig capitalised on a poor clearance with a well-placed shot to the right of opposing goalkeeper Jonathan Neil.
KC maintained the edge at halftime, but had to struggle to keep up with the Georgians when action resumed.
St. George's meanwhile intricately wound the passes together and were rewarded for their efforts in the 63rd minute when Mohaish Alexander's brilliant strike from 35 yards out connected with the inside bar.
