Letter of the Day - Containing our local terrorists

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WHILE WE mourn with the Americans for the tragic loss of life in the recent terrorist attack, we must not forget the mourning that is taking place in Jamaica daily as a result of the senseless loss of lives to criminal violence in the country.

The senseless killing of people throughout the country is no less the activities of terrorists to which the leaders of the country do not seem to have a creative and credible response. Our local terrorists may not be blowing up buildings or attacking Up Park Camp.

But they are achieving the successes that all terrorists yearn to achieve: driving fear and naked terror into the hearts of citizens by destroying lives and property and enjoying the satisfaction of seeing an impotent political directorate being unable to mount any effective response to deter their activities.

So while we pray for America let us spare a word for Jamaica. America may catch bin Laden but can we contain our home-grown variety?

I am etc.,
