Spanish Town set for another win

SPANISH TOWN High, the early form team in the 2001 Manning Cup season, goes into action today seeking its fourth win.

Leading Group E with nine points, the surprise leaders host Denham Town at the Spanish Town Prison Oval and are expected to continue their winning ways.

In their three matches so far Spanish Town have dispatched STATHS 4-0, St Jago 5-1 and edged Tivoli Gardens 1-0 to maintain their perfect record.

Denham Town on the other hand have drawn with second from bottom Penwood, lost 1-0 to STATHS and edged St Jago 2-1.

Based on these results Denham Town should not trouble Spanish Town too much. In football strange things do happen and if Spanish Town come into the game thinking they have already won, they could be setting themselves up for a fall.

Another key game in Group E is the Tivoli Gardens/STATHS matchup. The only blot on Tivoli Gardens' season thus far has been their loss to Spanish Town. They are expected to return to winning form against STATHS who also have six points and have lost to Spanish Town.

Another game of significance is the Group D top of the table clash between Charlie Smith and Calabar at the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex. Charlie Smith won their opening two games before drawing with Kingston College on Tuesday to end up on seven points, two ahead of Calabar and KC. Calabar have had chances to cause damage in their group but have let them slip.

In their opening game against KC, they had the home team trailing twice but let them back in the game. They also squandered chances against Vauxhall in Tuesday's match after beating the hapless Denham Town 2-0.

Kingston College, who are behind Calabar on goal difference, play away to Pembroke Hall who are second from bottom in the group. Any slip from Calabar will see KC overtake them.

The top two teams in Group F will also see action today. Kingston Technical, who are behind Jonathan Grant on goal difference, host Campion College who have not lost his season. From three games they have five points.

Zone leaders Jonathan Grant, who drew with Campion in a rescheduled game this week, host Camperdown at Ferdie Neita Park. All games begin at 3:30.
