An attack on freedom

THE EDITOR, Sir:

"JESUS WEPT" St. John 11 verse 35. The attack on the USA was an attack on freedom and prosperity for which all great nations must aspire. The attack on the USA, is undoubtedly an attack on Jamaica's economy too. The burning inferno at the World Trade Center, has cremated most of its victims, with extreme temperatures that melted even the material that formed the structures which were great feats of construction and engineering.

Rastas, Christians, women rights movements, prosperity-conscious people, the world over cannot in any form condone the extremism of the religious fanaticism of the Taliban, whose style of living would take back the world into the "dark ages." People must be tolerant of other people's religions, since in my opinion, all religions thrive after the same level of moral uprightness and love.

Remember, you could only be a Taliban supporter to live in Afghanistan, you cannot have your own opinion in that country, neither could you be a Rasta in that country, nor be a reggae super-star in that country.

I must congratulate both parties in Jamaica, for the consciousness shown in supporting the USA and the free world in this regard. The PNP is busy organising for the next election, likewise the JLP, let's have a model election in Jamaica and preserve our democracy and our sense of decency.

I am extremely happy with the sensitivity of Fidel Castro in his open support of the USA in this crisis. He was one of the first leaders to offer support to the USA in this crisis. I just wish he could come to grips and keep a democratic election in Cuba, that would have further cement his place in history as then he would be seen as a capable adaptive leader, who has come to grips with modern times.

I am, etc.,
