Prime Minister's Cabinet reshuffle shows insensitivity

THE EDITOR, Sir:

PRIME MINISTER Patterson's recent Cabinet reshuffle leaves the nation in no doubt about his total disregard for us.

How could a Prime Minister who cares about the people even think about putting Robert Pickersgill back in charge of a Ministry of Transport & Works. The same Robert Pickersgill who led and managed to keep the country's transport system in such a mess that when we send our children off to school in the mornings, we run the risk of never seeing them alive again, as it was the norm that they could be run over by minibuses/robots.

But adults were no better off, as you could be killed by one of those contraptions that Mr. Pickersgill provided to transport us by just standing on the sidewalk minding your own business.

As for the other subjects that he was responsible for, I will just mention by name and of course the country will remember the chaos that existed under Mr. Pickersgill's management, (Light, Water, Telephone, etc.) The country is well aware that Robert Pickersgill is non-performer.

I find it difficult to understand how the Prime Minister could place him back in such a sensitive Ministry.

Dr. Peter Phillips and Dean Peart put in some hard work to get our transport system into some semblance of order and it is working (It is still facing some hiccups) but with their continued hard work the country was well on the way to having a proper system now with this all time non-performer going back to head this Ministry, what hope do we have?

It is well known that Mr. Peart is one of the hardest working politicians in this country, both in the Ministry and in his constituency, but every time there is a vacancy, the Prime Minister ignores him even to the extent now of placing this lazy non-performer Pickersgill over him. Prime Minister this is an insult and total disrespect to Mr. Peart, who I understand is M.P. for one of the PNP's strongest constituencies.

To remove Tony Hylton from the Ministry of Foreign Trade at this time and put him to hibernate in the Ministry of Mining & Energy is just too much. The Ministry of Mining & Energy is the perfect place for Mr. Pickersgill, who likes to hibernate in style.

I am, etc.,
