Liquors to please the palate

WESTERN BUREAU:

They catch your eye as soon as you enter the Partial and Harbersdashery section (read supermarket) of Bogue Wholesale. Row after row after bottle after bottle of coloured liquid in different shape and colour bottles.

They almost scream lets relax, lets tot up the glasses, have a talk and rediscover ourselves.

Add up all the ages of all the fine liquors on the shelf and you will get a third millennium - or close to it, it is safe to bet.

The whiskey lovers will not be displeased with the Johnnie Walker, or they may prefer to test the Jack Daniels. Still others may take a fancy to the Chiveas Regal, or still yet the Canadian Club.

Wray and Nephew is well represented with Old Tom Gin, Jamaica Rum, White Rum (of course) and Jamaica Brandy, among other choices.

Gin drinkers should take a shine to Gordon's and Gilbey's, while Smirnoff is normally top of the vodka man's list.

Anyone care for some Myer's Rum? Or some Cocomania Jamaica Rum? The name JB should invoke some respect, while the good old favourite Appleton is never far from the top of the list.

Back on the whiskey scene, Seagram's VO Canadian Whiskey and Jim Bean strike very familiar chords.

Castle Rich Ruby Port is as its name suggests, very rich.

Champagne is there in abundance.

Non-alcoholics who would still fancy a tipple can try BNT Fre and Eva, which has a delightful non-alcoholic apple juice.
