Letter of the Day - Church must stick to saving souls

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE CHURCH is trying to play a role in improving Jamaica by becoming more politically active. I do not believe that pastors should tell their members who to vote for. Liberation Theology is one thing as it actively promotes taking one's destiny in one own hands by achieving things that people need in the here and now, but playing the media spotlight game is beneath the Church. While it sounds good and gets the headlines, politics is the least of the Church's problems.

The Church needs to stick to saving souls and morals of people because that is where they can best serve our country. It is a bankruptcy in morals, hope and a disrespect for life that Jamaica is experiencing and that is destroying the very fabric of life.

If they can save the spiritual in Jamaica, they will be playing a major role.

I am etc.,
