Bank on Quick Medic

By Orville Clarke, Freelance Writer

COURT CASE with Kenyatta Davis in the saddle is a lonely winner of Wednesday's maiden two-year-old event over 1000 metres straight. Trained by Kenneth Mattis and owned by Yudeshwar Misir and Ivor Patrick, COURT CASE covered the distance in a sparkling 57.2 seconds, just four-fifths of a second off the track record of 56.3 set by Eros ten years ago. - Dennis Coke

WITH A first prize of $600,000 a real possibly, thanks to a $320,491.00 carryover, tomorrow's Racing Pools game should be the best supported in a long time.

The programme kicks off with a $100,000 claiming race over the straight five course which brings together three recent course winners in PRINCE ADAM, KING OF THE BAND and BLAZING SILVER.

SUB ZERO, the mount of bang in form Panamanian jockey Ameth Robles, has also won over the straight in recent months and being best drawn on the outside, I take her to stave off the sparingly raced but pretty useful KING OF THE BAND and BLAZING SILVER.

When scoring over 1100 metres on August 25, SUB ZERO led home the subsequent winners CHECK ME OUT and BRAVE DANCER by 1 1/4 lengths and followed with a narrow win over the straight course on September 26. One of her victims in that race was KEISHA'S PRIDE who has subsequently won over the straight in better company. That speaks volumes for the chances of SUB ZERO.

Next on the programme is Division I of the divided $100,000 claiming race for the Charlie James Memorial Trophy over 1100 metres. This looks made to order for INCISAL EDGE who beat then favourite SUB ZERO in smart time over the distance on November 10.

Last Saturday, INCISAL EDGE stepped up to $120,000 and was not disgraced in finishing fourth to SILVER WEDDING over 1200 metres. Now back among her peers and apprentice Andrew Wright who won with her taking the ride, the five-year-old mare should win from THE RHYTHM DOCTOR, INDIAN RAJA and recent winner BINGO PARTY.

Section II of the Charlie James Memorial is race number three and here whatever beats SILVER FOX will surely win. Installed a firm favourite over the straight five course under sparingly used John Mills recently, SILVER FOX (who has good speed) was just touched off by NYAMINYAMI in the final stride. With in-form Kenyatta Davis replacing Mills aboard the 5-y-o gelding, he should atone at the expense KAYDENE, PRIVATE AFFAIR and BULLET.

QUICK MEDIC, who caught the eye on his recent debut, looks hard to oppose when he returns for the Abbie Grannum Memorial Cup over 1200 metres for two-year-olds, race four on the Pools programme.

The bay gelding, by The Medic out of Quick Burst, finished a close second to BLACK THATCH over 1300 metres on November 14, this after walking out of the starting gate. He continues to work well and now a lot better for the experience, should lead home KNAVE OF HEARTS, TYCHE and REJECT.

Old rivals FULLY DECORATED and CHAPSIE, a close third and fourth respectively to WARRIOR over 1800 metres on November 21, should have a battle royal for top honours in the fifth race over the circular nine course, this for the Trainers' Association Trophy. FULLY DECORATED finished third in a blanket finish, while the then favourite CHAPSIE was 2 1/4 lengths fourth under a rather hurried ride from Trevor Simpson.

It will be extremely close between them over this circular course, but former champion Hubert Bartley now has the leg over FULLY DECORATED and this could tilt the balance in his favour. QUEEN LITTLE SHOES, who was fifth in the same race, could also enter the reckoning.

The last three races should be won by DAWN'S REVENGE (looks thrown in at the weights), recent winner SELENA MYSTIQUE (returns on a convenient mark) and CHADD THE MASTER (focused for this trophy). Their respective dangers are SOUTHERN COMFORT in the 6th, HARLEY BARLEY and LET THE MUSIC PLAY.
