J$24-m to redesign JTB's travel website

CABINET YESTERDAY gave its seal of approval for the awarding of several contracts, including one valued at US$529,000 (J$24.8 million) to United States-based Motivo, for the redesign of the Jamaica Tourist Board's travel website.

Information Minister Colin Campbell told reporters at yesterday's post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House that the redesign of the JTB's website was to ensure that "it will move beyond the purely promotional website to create a dynamic electronic sales vehicle for Jamaica".

When completed, the site will create a comprehensive vacation planning tool which will further provide online presence for all tourism entities with the requisite e-commerce solutions, Mr. Campbell said.

The job for the redesign was put to tender and written proposals were received from eight agencies, including Cable and Wireless Internet Jamaica; Compuworks Jamaica; FCD Internet, USA; Pugmarks, India; and Paradign.com, UK. The duration of the contract is 10 months.
