Approximately 90 children received goodies and presents.ONCE AGAIN, members of the management team and staff of the Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ) showered gifts and goodies on the students of the Marcus Garvey Basic School in Greenwich Town, Kingston, at the annual Christmas Treat hosted by the Association.
A clown entertained the students, as they enjoyed face painting and other gimmicks as well as the multi-coloured bounce-about set up on their school compound. Students also interacted and played games involving the SAJ personnel. The principal and teachers were also recognised by the SAJ for their hard work throughout the year. The Shipping Association sponsors the school, which has four teachers on staff and 111 children ages three to six years old on roll.
General manager of the SAJ, Pauline Gray, said the annual treat was one of the ways in which the SAJ sought to give back to the community. She said members of the association as well as members of staff would come together each year and make donations to bring some cheers to the youngsters during the festive season.
"We are pleased that we are able to undertake this venture to help to bring some joy to the lives of these children," Mrs. Gray says. She thanked the staff and commended the teachers for their efforts at influencing and moulding the lives of the children under their care.
Public relations manager of the SAJ, Monica Silvera, also pointed out that the association also sought to bring some cheers to the senior citizens in Greenwich Town community, by providing an annual Christmas luncheon and packages of groceries from the association.
Principal of the school, Myrtle Clarke, thanked the association, observing that the students as well as their parents, were appreciative of the kind gesture of the Shipping Association of Jamaica.
"The SAJ has been good to us over the years and we are grateful for the consideration and the continued sponsorship," Mrs Clarke noted.
