JAMAICA'S JOHNNY Bloomfield finished his Corona Caribbean Open campaign in tremendous fashion yesterday with the equal best final round score at the Lucaya Golf and Country Club in the Bahamas.
Bloomfield, who turned pro last year, fired a superb four-under 68 to share final day honours with Japan's Tatsuaki Nakamura who was the only other player to card a 68.
For his efforts, Bloomfield finished tied for 20th in the event with a gross score of one-over 289 (76-72-73-68) and picked up a cheque for US$520.
Starting on the back nine yesterday with compatriot Jason Lopez, the University of South Carolina graduate had two birdies and two bogeys at the turn but finished the last nine holes with four birdies and no bogeys.
Lopez carded a fourth round 75 which saw him finish a creditable eight-over 43rd (74-75-72-75-296) and pick up his first professional cheque worth US$230.
Two other Jamaicans were also swinging away at the Caribbean Open, which has been incorporated into the Tour De Las Americas.
Wayne Alexis (76-71-75-79-301) finished 48th and claimed US$190 while the island's leading amateur, Owen Samuda, finished fourth in that section and 54th overall in the 110-man field with a 23-over gross score of 311 (77-74-85-75).
The Open was won by Argentine Rafael Gomez who wound up at 10 under par for the tournament (68-69-68-73-278). American Brian Quinn (71-67-72-71-281) finished second, three strokes behind Gomez.
