Take Delay Of Game

By Orville Clarke, Freelance Writer

SEVEN STARTERS have been declared for today's Caymanas Park feature, the Turf Club Cup over 1200 metres, this confined to $250,000-$230,000 claimers.

Included in the lineup are WILD AND RESTLESS and CHECK ME OUT, both of whom have already won this season. YOUNG AND RESTLESS ran on strongly to beat PIK A TRIX and UNDER CURRENT in the Millard Ziadie Cup over 1100 metres on January 19, while CHECK ME OUT won back-to-back races over this very trip on January 1 and 5 respectively.

While CHECK ME OUT achieved her double in lesser company, the six-year-old daughter of The Medic-Knew You When is so fit that she cannot be under-estimated in this tougher spot, especially with a mere 48kg and leading jockey Peter Bryan aboard.

Others such as SIR THAKUR BABA and BAY SAVAGE, both free-running types, should make their presence felt, but the one best equipped to pull it off in my book is DELAY OF GAME, claimer of the year in 2000.

Trained by Rowan Mathie, the 6-y-o mare has kept better company, failing by a short head to stave off RAPIDASH over 1300 metres on December 5, this on a $310,000 tag.

Returning 10 days later for $250,000 she was a fast-finishing second to First Trick over 1100m, be2aten two lengths after coming very wide into the straight. A similar effort here from DELAY OF GAME will find her hard to beat over 1200 metres, especially from her convenient mark of 52kg and inform Clive Lynch aboard.

Other firm fancies on the nine-race card - KNAVE OF HEARTS in the fifth, MR. VOLCANE to stave off late running FASTGETAWAY in the sixth, ISSEY MIKAYE to win again at the expense of COMING WEST in the seventh and KNOWLEDGE to likewise at the expense of RUNNING CHASE and MR. MICAWBER in the eighth.
