PRINCESS Margaret Rose, younger sister of England's reigning Queen Elizabeth II died yesterday at age 71. However, her death will not affect the three-day visit of the Queen, beginning next Monday.
Buckingham Palace made contact with Kings House yesterday morning, indicating that the visit was still on.
Desmond Allen, the chief media co-ordinator for the Royal Visit, yesterday confirmed Buckingham Palace's contact with Kings House and said, "As far as we know, the Royal Visit is still on and preparations to host the Royal Couple are continuing as normal."
Governor-General, Sir Howard Cooke, said that he was saddened by her death. "Throughout her life, both in her official duties and her personal life, she displayed an interest in, and love of life and all that it had to offer," he said.
Princess Margaret has always had a love affair with the islands, especially Jamaica, where she participated in several of its more historic moments. The Princess Margaret Hospital in St. Thomas was named for her.
