Citizens and extortion

THE EDITOR, Sir:

CITIZEN CO-OPERATION is required to eradicate extortion.

Red Hills Road must be saved at all cost. The actions of the Constant Spring police must be highly commended. The officers of this station are resolute in their actions of preventing Red Hills Road from becoming the hunting ground of gunmen, terrorists and other plagues of society. The anti-extortionist squad is their latest attack on these terrorists.

Many communities are paying close attention to their success in eradicating these extortionists. If successful (as I am sure it will be) it will become the blueprint to wipe out this scourge in our society. For the police to be successful they need the fullest co-operation of every business person, church or private individual who is being shaken down by these extortionists.

Also anyone who knows any of these extortionists should give this information to the police.

It is pointless bellyaching if vital information is withheld from the police by individuals who are being harassed by these extortionists.

As in the case of firearms, financial rewards should also be given to anyone who supplies information which can lead to the conviction of an extortionist. Red Hills Road is not only one of the major business axes of Kingston but is the major route to billions of dollars worth of homes and businesses in the Corporate Area.

I am, etc.,
