Illegal electrical connections

THE EDITOR, Sir:

On Wednesday, February 27, this headline "New cess, more tax" appeared in The Gleaner. It was reported that just under 500,000 customers of the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPSCo) will on April 1, begin paying a 3.14 per cent cess to offset the company's cost of providing street lighting.

On several occasions, I have travelled through sections of the constituency in the vicinity of Spanish Town Road of a senior member of the Cabinet. Scores of houses in those areas had illegal electrical connections. I am therefore requesting if the Honourable Minister could use the influence of office to persuade the constituents to pay at a least part of their electricity bills, thereby reducing the burden on us all.

I am, etc.,
