'Inexplicable headline'

THE EDITOR, Sir:

YOUR HEADLINE in Monday's newspaper is, to say the least, inexplicable and malicious, not only to the Ministers who attended the funeral of Mr. Wesley Black, but also to the deceased and his family.

The late Mr. Wesley Black is known by all as an upstanding and well respected citizen. He was a supporter and committed worker of the People's National Party for over 40 years. He gave sterling service at all levels of the party.

In the religious sphere, Mr. Black was a deacon of many years in his church.

Personally, I acted as Mr. Black's supervisor while we were both employed at Sevens Estate's Parnassus Farm in Clarendon.

Indeed, my association with Mr. Black started in 1964. I found him to be an honest, hard-working human being who really lived an exemplary life.

Given the infamy in which you have placed those who attended this funeral, am I to understand that I should not attend the funeral of any Jamaican simply because of the allegations of the reputation of his or her relatives?

It is a pity that the family should be subjected to this situation at a time when they really need solace, because I know how traumatic it is for them at this time.

I am, etc.,

ROGER CLARKE, MP

Minister of Agriculture

Hope Gardens

Kingston 6
