Jamaica needs to know more about Shearer

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WHOLEHEARTEDLY endorse Martin Henry's call for us to hear from our elder statesman, H.L. Shearer, regarding his time in politics and his views on the future of our fair land.

However, I believe that it will take more than a newspaper article to get this important project under way. Writers like Martin Henry must seize the moment and take the initiative before politicians like Mr. Shearer pass on. The UWI should also get involved.

Some years ago, I was in Antigua and Barbuda when a newspaper there published a picture of a much younger Shearer standing with V.C. Bird, Sr. and other Caribbean leaders of that day. I wondered at the time what was Mr. Shearer's role in promoting Caribbean unity, but did not get a clue from the accompanying article.

Finally, I suggest that the cost of underwriting a project such as this can be met by accessing grant funds from different sources.

I am etc.,
