THE FIRST ONE-DAY international between the West Indies and India scheduled for Sabina Park tomorrow is in serious doubt due to the persistent rain which has affected the island since Wednesday.
However, ground officials continue to work on the pitch thanks to a large tent which covers the centre of the ground.
It is believed the officials wanted to start preparing the one-day pitch during the Test match which ended on Wednesday - just before the rains came, but we're not allowed to do so. If the pitch they are hoping to use can't be properly prepared, they will look at the Test pitch as a possible replacement.
Meanwhile, the Chief Operations Officer of the West Indies Cricket Board, Michael Hall, said if there was no play tomorrow or Sunday, the board would suffer a "big loss".
"The one-day internationals are one of our strongest revenue areas and we expect full houses," Hall said.
"It would also mean we would have to go through the process of providing refunds for people who have already bought tickets. It would also be a bad thing for us just from the point a view that all the fans here are looking forward to the game."
Hall said a make-up game on Monday was not possible because the broadcaster's (TWI) television equipment would not reach Barbados in time for the third game, which is scheduled for Bridgetown on Wednesday.
