Met Office extends flash flood watch

THE NATIONAL Meteorological Service yesterday extended the flash flood watch for low-lying and flood-prone areas of Westmoreland, St. Elizabeth, Manchester, Clarendon, St. Catherine, Kingston, St. Andrew and St. Thomas. A severe weather alert remains in effect for the rest of Jamaica until today.

The National Meteorological Service said satellite imagery indicated that Jamaica continues to be influenced by a large area of disturbed weather associated with a low-pressure system that is just south and east of Jamaica. Doppler radar yesterday detected moderate showers over sections of mainly southern parishes.

The general movement of this area of disturbed weather is toward the north, and a continuation of this trend would keep it over the island during the next 18 to 24 hours.

Outbreaks of showers and possible thunderstorms are therefore expected to return today.
