A BUILDING plan submitted by the operators of JamRock Sports Bar and Grill to open an outlet in downtown Kingston is to be considered by the Building and Town Planning Committee of the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC) when it meets on Wednesday.
Committee chairman, Councillor Trevor Bernard, said yesterday that the KSAC has approved the design of the building and has granted permission to JamRock's operators to continue modifying the outlet, located at the corner of King and Port Royal streets.
However, the KSAC has not given final approval for the business to start operating.
The KSAC ordered the new fast food outlet closed on May 15, a day after it opened to the public. Committee members contended that the building was refurbished and opened without the operators applying for building modification approval from the KSAC.
The operators subsequently submitted plans to the KSAC.
"The original design had a few unacceptable points and were sent back. But the plans have come back corrected and the city engineer and the director of planning said they have no problem with it. Once the fire officials have looked at and if they find it okay, then the JamRock owners can go ahead and open the outlet," Councillor Bernard said.
Eleanor Brown, chief executive officer of Caribbean Investment Fund (CIF), which has majority shares in Jam-Rock, has said she was not aware that the previous management of the location had not complied with the KSAC's building code. She said that once the new management became aware of the KSAC's concerns, it contacted the Corporation and has been working to resolve the issues.
